A new family member home

It is good to prepare for the puppy's arrival in the house in many ways.

Possiblyinsurancecan already be obtained at the stage when the puppy is registered, which usually happens with cats around 8 weeks at the latest. It takes a few weeks for the insurance to take effect, and the sooner you take out the insurance, the more it covers. I highly recommend taking out insurance, especially if there are less than 3 pets in the family, if the number is exceeded, the insurance is so expensive that it can be cheaper to put aside the same amount as what would be spent on insurance every month.

It is also recommended to read and study about the arrival of a new pet in the family. You can find it separately on my websiteReading list, with books I recommend.

The home also needs to be donepuppy safe  and put together a cat first aid kit, also find out the nearest veterinary stations and vets on duty.

Kitten

Harnesses for kittens are optional, but if the hopes are that the cat gets used to outdoor activities, this skill is good at maintaining all the time. I do not give kittens to homes where the cat is outdoors uncontrolled - cats are lost every year for getting hit by a car, lynx and fox catches, or injured in fights with other cats. Additionally, cats are pests, which also kill for fun, and therefore it is not recommended to walk outdoors without proper control. Alternatives to outdoor activities should stick to roofed arenas or harnesses. A harness opens up the world for the cat and gives many options (eg as with Pessi -ragdoll who walks in Lapland http://reissukissa-pessi.blogspot.com/)

The world of cats is four-dimensional, they need places to climb and jump, high places are a cat’s favorite. That’s why a climbing tree is a great solution as it also allows scraping, but note that if there are open shelters, tables and other blank surfaces (or emptyable ones), the cat will be happy to do it and make life more meaningful. Some levels may as well be considered as permitted places of residence for cats.

There is also a need for a litter box (there are many different kinds and you have to think about what is best suited for your family), there should always be one more litterbox than cats in the house. It is possible that cats do not use all the boxes, but when they have the option to choose, the likelihood of resource disputes is much smaller.

Food and drink bowls are also needed and drink bowls should be placed more around the apartment to encourage cats to drink. If dry food is to be kept on display all the time (it is far from necessary if the cat is able to get fed 3-6 times daily), you may want to think about how the food is served. It would be good for a cat to use its senses to find or obtain food, even if it is not a traditional way to catch food, you can hide or buy some kind of activation cups, towers or balls to which food can be stuffed in. This is how the cat will work a bit for its food.

For treatment purposes, it would be good to have nail clippers and brushes, for possible contamination or cat shows you may also consider purchasing some kind of pet shampoo - the rule is that the less perfume the better.

The world of cats is four-dimensional, they needplaces to climb and jump, high places are the most preferred by cats. A scratching post is a great solution for this, as it also promotes the issue of allowed scratching, but it is worth noting that if there are open shelves, tables and other empty surfaces (or ones that can be emptied), the cat will gladly use them and it will also make its life more meaningful. Some of the levels should perhaps be kept as permitted resting places for the cat. There are also different running wheels on the market for cats, it is important to note that they are closed, so that the tail or paw cannot get stuck anywhere.

Also neededsandboxes  (there are several types of these and you have to think about which one is best for the family), there should always be one more litter boxes than there are cats in the household. It is possible that the cats do not use all the boxes, but when they have the opportunity to choose, the probability of disputes over resources is much lower, it also prevents stress-induced urinary tract infections typical for cats. The quality of the sand is of course optional, there are many different ones to choose from, the cat itself prefers the softest and finest sand.

Alsofood and drink binsare necessary and more drinking cups should be placed around the apartment to encourage cats to drink.  If you plan to keep dry food on display all the time (it is by no means necessary, if you can feed the cat 3-6 times a day), you might want to think about how to serve the food. It would be good for the cat to use its senses to find or get food, even if it is not a traditional predator, it can for example hide food or buy some kind of activation cups, towers or balls from the store, in which the food could be put to serve. This way, the cat has to make a little effort for its food.

It would be good to be there for treatment proceduresnail scissors and a brush, in case of possible contamination, you can also consider some kindpet shampoobuying - as a rule of thumb, the less perfume the better, I personally use Isle of Dogs products. This also reduces allergies and hair loss.
